AGRICULTURE FEASIBILITY STUDY // SURINAME

Zero-deforestation agriculture.
Activate the coast, protect the forest.

A detailed feasibility study for activating 558,420 hectares of idle Suriname coastal grassland. Rice diversification, banana, palm oil, REDD+ carbon credits. LVV polder infrastructure. All from published sources. Zero forest conversion.

Nickerie-first strategy. Suriname's Nickerie district already has 14,800 ha of active rice cropland and 78,400 ha of grassland with existing polder infrastructure. The strategy is to diversify beyond rice monoculture into higher-value crops while expanding the cultivated area — all on existing coastal grassland, never touching interior forest.

Crop Strategy: Rice Diversification + Export

Nickerie is Suriname's rice heartland but monoculture creates vulnerability. The strategy diversifies into higher-value crops while maintaining rice as the export backbone. All on existing coastal grassland.

ZERO-DEFORESTATION GUARANTEE
Every hectare of activation tracked by satellite to prove zero forest conversion
IAGRO SAT's provenance engine traces every pixel's land-use history. Agricultural activation is only permitted on pixels classified as grassland in both the 2020 and 2024 WorldCover epochs. Any pixel that was forest at any point is permanently locked as protected. This is verifiable, reproducible, and auditable — the foundation for REDD+ carbon credit verification.

THE TECHNOLOGY ADVANTAGE

Satellite Monitoring + REDD+ MRV

IAGRO SAT provides dual-purpose satellite infrastructure: precision agriculture for crop production AND Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification for REDD+ carbon credits. One platform, two revenue streams.

Crop Health (NDVI)
Every 10m pixel monitored every 5 days via Sentinel-2. Detect stress before visible symptoms. Colour-coded district maps.
REDD+ Forest Monitoring
Monthly forest cover verification across all 19.4M ha. Detect any deforestation event >0.5 ha within 30 days. Audit-ready reports.
Zero-Deforestation Proof
Pixel-level provenance engine traces every hectare's land-use history. Cryptographic hashes for tamper-proof verification.
Yield Forecasting
ML models trained on tropical crop phenology predict harvest volumes 6-8 weeks ahead. Optimise logistics for rice, banana, palm oil.
Flood & Polder Monitoring
Sentinel-1 SAR radar detects waterlogging in polders regardless of cloud cover. Critical for Nickerie low-lying areas.
Carbon Stock Estimation
Biomass estimation from radar + optical fusion. Quantify above-ground carbon per hectare for REDD+ baseline and monitoring.
